Surfing and wellbeing retreats
Groundswell Scotland is funding a Women in Leadership Retreat session.
Are you a woman who is in leadership or works for a third sector organisation? Groundswell Scotland are providing a funded well-being and try surfing retreat session on September 10th 2025. There is no charge for the session. It is simply a chance to meet other women who are in a similar position who have a lot of pressure with their work within a chaotic sector but are dedicated to their purposeful work and want to make a difference.
We will be meeting at the new community building in Dunbar- The Ridge at 9:30 am for an opening gathering including well-being practices. Then we all go down to Shore Road, Belhaven and go body-boarding and have some fun in the sea.
All of equipment is provided.
This is happening on September 10th and we’ll meet at The Ridge Community Support Centre then go for a bodyboarding surf and fun in the sea at Belhaven Bay.
if you have your own wetsuit, you can bring it but we can provide all equipment free of charge, please make sure that you complete all of the relevant forms when you’re picking in so that we know your sizes and what you hope to get out of the day!.
Groundswell Scotland is a surf therapy charity for Trauma Recovery. We facilitate programmes designed to improve and develop self regulation, embodiment practices and healing tools through surfing’s connection to nature, community and self.
Our unique and innovative retreat session will provide the opportunity for women who are leading and working in third sector organisationsto come together around the ocean with the aim of promoting health and wellbeing. Surf Therapy is a celebration of our coasts, natural environment, community as well as encouraging more women to experience the joy of surfing and other mindful sports whatever their background or experience.
Our retreat host a maximum of 8 people giving space and opportunity for surf journal reflections, yoga and meditation practice, environmental beach conditions, learning to surf, connections with female surf history, confidence in being in the sea, surfing, your ability in yourself and in the surf environment.
We train Groundswell Scotland volunteer facilitators and volunteer sea-sister mentors to hold space in and out of the ocean to support your healing journey. Groundswell uses the ocean and surfing as a healing modality, much like art is used in art therapy.
Throughout the retreat session you will be supported in your healing journey as you learn to self regulate difficult emotions, navigate potential triggers and lean into your edges and into the waves; to widen your capacity to deal with stress. In doing so, you will learn resiliency, grounding techniques, intention setting, focus.
The programmes will also provide an opportunity for facilitators to learn too. We are all on a healing journey. The ocean has so much power to help build self awareness and esteem, which are integral to releasing from the restraints of trauma induced over/under whelm in the nervous system.
We look forward to stepping with you into community, and you journey into sea and self love.
