Description
This course is designed for all paddlers wishing to develop their safety and rescue skills and is also a pre-requisite for coaching courses it replaces the Foundation Safety and Rescue Training course (FSRT) in 2023. What to bring
- Your full paddling kit, plus as many of the recommended items from the syllabus as you can.
- Your own boat and paddles, we will have access to paddling equipment if you do not have it.
- Footwear that you can wear in your boat and in the water!
- More warm clothes than you would usually take paddling and changes of clothes.
- Your British Canoeing number if you are a member.
- Any medication you may need - please ensure the instructor is aware before the session.
Itinerary
Your course will support you to explore and practice simple strategies and safe skills that provide you with the tools to solve common paddling issues in a sheltered water environment, providing peace of mind when venturing out onto the water.
WHY TAKE THE PADDLESPORT SAFETY AND RESCUE COURSE?First of all, this award is all about keeping safe on your craft in sheltered water venues, this includes canoes, kayaks and stand up paddleboards. So, whether you are paddling with friends or your club, this practical course is packed with safe practical solutions. It doesn’t matter about your age or whether you have limited paddling experience, this course supports your knowledge and raises your awareness of your personal safety.
If you needed any more convincing, the course is completely based around training and raising awareness, with no assessment. Structured to support you, our experienced tutors will ensure you have plenty of time practising, as well as understanding how you can develop skills and experience after the course.

- Safety frameworks
- Contact and Towing rescues
- Self-rescues
- Deep water rescues
- Reflection and development
