The best way to traverse the Scottish Highlands

Description

This is a trip of stunning paddling and picture-perfect campsites allowing us to travel along one of Scotland's most famous Glens.

Starting on the west coast just outside Fort William we traverse the country using the gentle, sheltered water of the Caledonian Canal, which links together the lochs of Lochy, Oich and the formidable Loch Ness.

Trip planning made easy!

We know that when you're on a trip you don't want to worry about logistics, so we've taken care of everything!

At the end of the trip, we'll get you back to the start location or if you would rather travel onwards from the finish location we'll either drop you in town or help you organise onward travel from the finish location.

When it comes to food we have got a mouth-watering menu put together, so all you have to worry about is enjoying it.

Requirements

This is a novice level trip, you should be comfortable being outside for the duration of the trip.

Your paddling skills don't need to be excellent but we do recommend you've been on the water before coming on the trip.

What to bring

What you need to bring with you:

  1. Clothing for paddling
  2. Full waterproofs
  3. Outdoor clothing you don't mind getting smelly and a wee bit damp in
  4. Shoes for being on the water (trainers or boots you don't mind getting wet, or wellies. We do not recommend thin wetsuit boots for this trip as there is some walking to be done.)
  5. Clothing for in camp
  6. Dry clothes for around camp
  7. Dry shoes
  8. Sleeping system
  9. Sleeping bag
  10. Sleep matt
  11. Thermals to sleep in

Itinerary

Day 1 - Fort William to Gairlochy

Day 2 - Gairlochy to Laggan

Day 3 - Laggan to Fort Augustus

Day 4 - Fort Augustus to Foyers

Day 5 - Foyers to Inverness

*This is our ideal itinerary however it may change when we're on the go as we'll work with the weather and pick campsites best suited to us each day.

I had a great day with Neil and four other mock students as Neil led us through quite a challenging cave. He was calm and easily coped with the issue of an anxious student. We learned a lot about caves, geology and the ...
